Let's be fair, he is not banality but then again architects are not savours either. Unless the theme is banality. These shows are supposed to be exciting. I honestly cannot believe there are people sticking up for Chipperfield. That's the most disturbing part. <br /><br />Architecture is only about design solutions? No creation going on with you? You are basically telling architects to lay down and take it. What a weird thing to challenge a debate on. David Chipperfield responds only to the personal polemic, rather than the intellectual concerns raised. "outside in the real world our leaky trade is sinking into powerlessness and irrelevance. This is because politicians and project managers, investors and bureaucrats have been deciding our built environment for a long time now. Not the architects." I challenge anyone to debate this. Architects, and in particular architectural educators, need to stop living in a dream world and start shaking things up. Design is about solutions, not creative flair for signature buildings or innovative forms and facades. There has been a death of architectural criticism and architectural theory is reduced to being an interesting anecdote in client meetings...and history...lets not even go there.<br />"What a great Architecture Biennale it would have been had they established forums and put out themes which would have provided a chance to look behind the scenes at the decision-making....These topics would be worthy of discussion – not who is and who is not a star architect." I think this sums up his point really well.<br />...Chipperfield's response seems to have been written by one of the many underpaid interns working in his office...or worse the PA!! grammatically correct, polite come back, press releasable and loads of personal sobs.Urban Floophttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12020757867887615320noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6531343.post-38547259178072179572012-09-07T10:40:01.931-04:002012-09-07T10:40:01.931-04:00wow some serious architect drama there.
