Half Dose #23: Metropol Parasol

Missing image - HD23a.jpg

"Metropol Parasol", a redevelopment project by J. Mayer H. for Plaza de la Encarnacion in Seville, Spain is one of the most striking projects I've seen in ages. Amazingly, it's under construction and is expected to be complete this year.

The design is comprised of mushroom-like structures scattered about the site, linked together overhead like an amorphous parasol.

The project includes "an archeological site, a farmers market, an elevated plaza, multiple bars and restaurants underneath and inside the parasols, as well as a panorama terrace on the very top of the parasols."

  1. A good pain in the ass for our city. In the competition several of the projects were much better than Parasol.

  4. Jurgen Meyer's first proposal was better. More soft. Project has changed a lot, it's too much weighed, dark... we'll see

  8. So now, ladies and gentlemen, here we are. March 27th, our mayor Alfredo Sanchez Monteseirin, who bet for this wonderful building 5 years ago!, finally showed all people in Seville, that dreams, with effort and courage, come true. Metrosol is his present to all sevillanos and the history of Sevilla in his goodbye to his politic career after 12 years, during those years he has changed the fisonomy of all the city, not only the turistic zone. Thank you, mayor. Gracias, Alfredo.
