Suburban Homes in the Dustbin of History

This graphic from Earth (The Book) by The Daily Show with John Stewart is, like much of the book, funny...

But there's something not quite right about the floor plan. Can you find it?

  1. It is missing the awkward and typical two-story entrance porch. Actually, for that matter, it's missing any kind of entrance whatsoever.

Also, who would put the garage right next to the bedrooms? It is better suited to be close to the kitchen and living areas.

  2. You're warm with the entrance, but it's not missing entirely.

  3. entry into kitchen... no door from garage to house. also strange stair's next to master leading up or down... and to what??

  4. Yep, the entry into the kitchen is what struck me as odd. It's weird to think about coming home every day to that entry, or cooking dinner while standing behind the front door. Hard to say if the plan is intentionally awkward, or if the captions and illustrations dictated the layout...something they might have thought people wouldn't look at closely.

  6. ummmm...I'm not so sure the layout is the point.

  7. Of course it's not, phenomenot. But there it is on the page, drawn by somebody specially for the book (I'm guessing, since nobody in their right mind would build a suburban house like that) and therefore ripe for a gentle prod.

  8. I was gonna say not enough hiding places in the den for the stash.
