  1. An airport terminal lands in downtown Amsterdam. One could predict the exterior would be another starchitect era oddity screaming for attention. It's a pity, however, that the 1895 Stedelijk building wasn't restored to its original Victorian earthy richness in the renovation, as if modern art can't hold its own in traditional settings. The contrast between it and the stark new addition would have given the overall museum more pungency. Simply painting the old building's interior hospital white, plus replacing the herringbone pattern wood floor with anemic planking to match the new wing, is so 1980s bland.
