World's Tallest Blog Post

Today's big architectural news is so big it even made it onto the national broadcast news. Of course this is because the news all about the next contender for the tallest building in the world: Kingdom Tower would surpass the Burj Khalifa by at least 173 meters (567 feet). Designed by Chicago's Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, Kingdom Tower in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia would be over 1 kilometer tall...not yet a mile but pretty tall nevertheless. More big numbers and other details can be found in AS+GG's press release.

Ha! As I was scrolling (and scrolling and scrolling) to reach the bottom of this image, I couldn't help but thinking that visiting the completed building would also mean standing at its base and having an equally limited view of the structure, albeit in a completely different way and from a totally different angle.

Surprisingly humorous for such a monumental design!

Thanks for posting.

Just found what I think is a better rendering sitting in my inbox. Not quite as tall as the previous image, but the same idea.

Bigger is better right? Other than engineering, it looks boring. Give me well designed close to the earth buildings any day. Why not be truly innovative? Make the worlds deepest building. Artistic modern architecture built on a human scale: Rapson Architects

Kingdom? As in... Kingdom Hall (JWs)?

p.s. I too thought that was the starship Enterprise, docked part-way up.

That's the tallest building now? pfff... wow it's huge, but not that pretty. it is a shame that they only look for an award that it will be the tallest and it can't be nice at the same time!
