Weird Things at Atlantic Yards
After reading Gotham Gazette's latest on Atlantic Yards, I figured I'd see what Google's new Street Views offers in the way of imagery for the area. What I found is a bit odd:
Is this perhaps a sly commentary on the Frank Gehry-designed development? Or just a glitch in the software centered on Atlantic Yards? Or a veil over construction / demolition? Or even a Christo installation that somehow escaped the news?
While I like the first possibility, it's probably the second, as the pink blob is present as one moves up and down Dean Street. Still, it's kinda strange that the second place I've looked at on Street Views is plagued with strange imagery, making me wonder how much of this new feature is similarly flawed.

That gotham gazette article is the first time I've ever seen the USGBC referred to as an "industry group." I'm certainly not a fan of Atlantic Yards, and I think the point that sustainable development is sometimes used as a "band-aid" to offset deficiencies in other areas is salient, but the green building section of that article leaves more than a little to be desired, and makes me doubt the rest of the reporting.
ReplyDeleteI live in the Denver area, and one of our major streets suffers from the same issues, large reddish/pink blur that follows the camera the entire length of the boulevard.

As far as I can tell, it's unintentional blurring. I've only spent ten minutes with the new google play-thing and noticed the blurring (though not in pink) in several locales in San Francisco.
